Porter-Cable FR350A Round Head 2-Inch to 3-1/2-Inch Framing Nailer Review

I’ve always been a fan and big time user of pneumatic tools. They just make working on any kind of redesign or fix up project so much easier. There’s always something to fix or work on around my house, so when my old pneumatic nailer died on me after 10 years, I had to get out there and buy a new one. We recently started to do a total remodel/addition on the kitchen, so I needed one bad. I ultimately decided on the Porter-Cable FR350A Round Head 2-Inch to 3-1/2-Inch Framing Nailer.

I knew immediately that this was the right nailer for me. The Porter-Cable FR350A just feels right when you take it out of the case for the first time. I’ve used several pneumatic nailers over the years, but this one has to be the most balanced in terms of design. It’s rare to work with a nailer that doesn’t wear your arm out after a few hours. With the Porter-Cable FR350A Round Head Framing Nailer, it’s easy to keep working on those big projects.

Every product, no matter how much you like it, has good and bad points. Here are my pros and cons for the Porter-Cable FR350A Round Head 2-Inch to 3-1/2-Inch Framing Nailer.

Pros:

    • Compact and great design. The design on the Porter-Cable FR350A is very compact. If you’ve ever needed to get a powerful nailer in a tight spot, you know how hard it can be. The bigger nailers are just too tough to squeeze in some areas. Not so with this one, I can easily nail in tight spots with this nailer.

    • Excellent long-lasting power. You get consistent power on every nail you drive. I loved that I didn’t have to constantly adjust this nailer. Every time I use it, I get consistency. According to the manufacturer, it’s because of the internal piston technology.

  • Great trigger. I like the selectable trigger to go between contact automation or restrictive nailing modes. Sometimes, I just need the nails to go in at a regular, steady pace, and sometimes I don’t. This nailer makes it easy to switch back and forth.

Cons:

    • Not a very light nailer. The weight of this nailer is a bit on the heavy side. You don’t notice it a lot because it is designed for balance, but it weighs a few pounds more than some of the other nailers I’ve used.

  • Jams can be a pain. On the rare occurrence of a jammed nail, it can take a few minutes to get the jam cleared. That has slowed me down a few times on big jobs, but jams have been pretty rare.

Using this tool on my kitchen remodeling job makes me feel like I’m using a professional nailer. I have friends who do this kind of work for a living and they have told me that they love Porter-Cable tools and use them on the job. I can certainly understand why now. This nailer is built for power and consistent performance and is actually a lot of fun to use.
