Bostitch F21PL Round Head 1-1/2-Inch to 3-1/2-Inch Framing Nailer Review

The time recently came when I decided to finally add another room to our house. I have been talking about this addition and planning it for years, but I wasn’t sure when I would get to it. I’ve done full time remodeling and construction work in the past, and felt like I was up to the job, I just kept putting it off. Finally, I got serious about doing it and put my plan into action.

The first thing I did was make sure that I had the right tools. Since I had plans drawn up and money budgeted for materials and tools, I opted to get the tools first. The very first piece of equipment I bought was the Bostitch F21PL Round Head 1-1/2-Inch to 3-1/2-Inch Framing Nailer. I didn’t want to fool around with rinky-dink tools for this job, and this framing nailer didn’t let me down.

Bostitch F21PL Round HeadPowerful & Lightweight

If you work with any kind of power or pneumatic tool, you know that there is always a trade off between power and the weight of the tool. Too often, you have to get a heavy, bulky tool in order to have the power you need to do big jobs right.

The Bostitch F21PL Nailer is one of the first pneumatic nailers I’ve ever seen that gives professional power, but is still light enough to use for hours without getting a cramped arm or shoulder. This was an important consideration for me, since I was doing all the framing work myself, it meant long hours of using my nailer. The Bostitch F21PL nailer was the perfect choice for this kind of job, and several others that I’ve done since then.

Technical Specs:

  • This nailer weights about 9 lbs.
  • 1,050 inch-pounds of nail driving power
  • Sequential Trigger
  • Bump Trigger

Pros:

    • Comfortable Rubber Grip. The rubber skid pads and grip make working with this nailer a lot more comfortable. Without the right padding many tools’ grips can make your hands sore and numb. That’s not a problem with this nailer.

    • Generous nail storage. The magazine holds a lot of nails. I can put in 60 framing nails at a time to speed up my work with this nailer

    • Changeable Nose Pieces. You can change the nose piece in an instant to go from framing nails to metal connector nails. This is a big time-saver and is a great convenience

  • Excellent Depth Control. You can control the depth of the nail driving with a simple push button feature.

Cons:

    • Some nails seem to misfire. I tried to save money on my addition by purchasing cheaper nails. They seemed to cause the Bostitch nailer to misfire. I splurged and bought Bostitch nails and that problem went away.

  • Occasional nail jams. Running more than one strip of nails at a time causes problems. This nailer seems to jam once in a while when I get daring and run more than one strip. It’s best to do one strip at a time to completely avoid this problem.

I finished my addition with ease by using the Bostitch F21PL Round Head 1-1/2-Inch to 3-1/2-Inch Framing Nailer as my nailer of choice. It’s powerful enough for tough jobs, but light enough not to kill your arms and shoulders when you use it for hours. This nailer offers a great balance of power and usability. Recommended!
